Book Recommendations for those
Interested in the Guaifenesin Protocol
The guaifenesin protocol is often helpful for those with Chronic Fatigue
Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Chemical Sensitivities and Vulvodynia.
We have gathered together all the books written by the author of the guaifenesin
protocol, R. Paul St. Amand and his co-author Claudia Marek.
We have also included the book written by Dr. Greg Penninston about the
guaifenesin protocol. He is a chiropractor who has has successfully
treated himself and hundreds of his patients with guaifenesin.
In addition, you will find books with helpful information about how to deal with doctors,
muscle pain, dental issues, blood sugar, disability and more. Many of
the books included here are written by professionals and others who have fibromyalgia and are on the guaifenesin protocol such as Devin Starlanyl (a
physician) and Miriam Williamson (a medical writer).
The Guaifenesin Guide: For Treating Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia, Irritable Bowel Syndrome by Gregory K. Penniston He has treated hundreds of patients (including himself) with guaifenesin
over a period of years and was the first to discover that much of the long
acting guaifenesin was not being absorbed properly. This discovery was
instrumental in understanding one reason why some patients may not respond
to the guaifenesin protocol. They simply could not absorb the long acting
medication. Dr. Penniston was able to get results for many of his
patients using the short acting form of guaifenesin when the long acting
failed. This information was not accepted by the original authors of the
protocol until much later, when they were forced to see for themselves due
to the FDA pulling long acting guaifenesin off the market. This book
covers the guaifenesin protocol with an open mind.

Blood Sugar Blues : Overcoming the Hidden Dangers of Insulin Resistance by Miryam Ehrlich Williamson, R. Paul St. Amand M.D.
Williamson (The Fibromyalgia Relief Book), a medical writer, and
fibromyalgia sufferer herself, offers an overview of various medical
conditions related to insulin resistance, a phenomenon whereby people become
immune to their own insulin, causing their blood sugar levels to fluctuate.
While diabetics are usually aware of their dietary restrictions, Williamson
believes that millions of other people are suffering, sometimes needlessly,
because they eat the wrong foods, especially carbohydrates. With anecdotal
and scientific evidence, she advocates a low carbohydrate/high protein diet
for everyone.
The Fibromyalgia Advocate by Devin Starlanyl, Devin J. Starlanyl, Hal Blatman
Herself a physician living with both FMS and MPS, Starlanyl gives the reader
valuable information for working with various health specialists through
numerous "data sheets" geared to a particular practitioner, e.g., the
cardiologist or dentist. Although her book would seem to accept uncritically
many experimental therapies (including guaifenesin) for FMS and MPS,
Starlanyl argues that in medicine "hardening of the attitudes" is a common
response of clinicians who lack a true understanding of these two painful
conditions.

causes of fibromyalgia, evaluation of new treatments, complete discussions
of special issues for women and men, and the latest information on
medication.

ache, and repetitive strain injuries.
