*Sal-Free^TM (Salicylate Free) Liquid Soap Bases and Melt and Pour Bar Soap Bases

For those who would like Sal-Free^TM (Salicylate Free) custom scented soaps or sets of products with the same scent (bubble bath, shower gel, bar soap, liquid hand soap etc.) you will be pleasantly surprised to learn that you don't need to make your own soaps.  You can purchase plain, unscented soap bases and easily add your own fragrance and color. 

The directions for adding scent and color are typically included on the website where you purchase the bases.  If you have questions, the supplier (Jody's Soaps and Creations) is knowledgeable and helpful.  In addition, there is a lot of "how to" information regarding these types of products on the internet.  If you get stuck and can't find an answer, feel free to ask us and we will do our best to help.

We will be adding new recipes and products as we find them.  We are in the process of looking for sal-free^TM lotion, shampoo and conditioner bases so please check back if you are interested.  In the meantime, see below for some possible sources.

Suggestion
The sizes that are available for most of the bases are a 2 oz trial size, 1 gallon and 4 gallons.  They are economically priced.  Two of the sal-free^tm bases can be used for more than one product.  The Suspension Body Wash/Shower Gel and the Suspension Hand Soap can each be used to make shower gel, bubble bath, hand soap and body wash.  You might consider trying the 2 oz samples, pick one base that you like for several products and purchase the 1 gallon size. If you plan to store your product for very long, you will probably need to use some sort of sal-free preservative like the Germaben II listed below. 

Following are links for soap bases, fragrances and colors that have been checked and are safe to use for those who must avoid salicylates.   Always check the listed ingredients on this site against those on the merchant site to ensure that they haven't changed since the product was checked for salicylates.  If they have changed and you are uncertain as to the sal-status, please contact us and we will check the ingredients for you.

Sal-Free^TM Liquid Soap Bases:

Bubble Bath Base Pearlized
This Bubble Bath has lots and lots of bubbles and has a beautiful pearlescent finish
Ingredients:  Water, Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Lauramide DEA, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Glycol Stearate, Tetrasodium EDTA, Sodium Chloride, Citric Acid, DMDM Hydantoin, Methylparaben, Sodium Bisulfate.

Moisturizing Mist
This mist is clear and unscented. Just add color and fragrance. Preservative allows for a 2 year shelf life.   NOTE: The supplier has used the mist on linens with no difficulty but recommends a test to ensure no staining.
Ingredients Water, Dioctyl Sodium Sulfosuccinate, Diammonium Lauramide, MEA Sulfosuccinate, Octoxynol-9, Propylene Glycol, Glycerin, DMDM Hydantoin.

Shower Gel
 It is very, very clear and very thick. It leaves your skin feeling clean without soap residue.
 Ingredients: Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Cocamide MEA, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Methylparaben, Methylchoroisothiazolinone,Methylisothiazolinone, Citric Acid, Sodium Chloride.

Suspension Body Wash / Shower Gel
Can be used for shower gel, bubble bath, hand soap or body wash. This product is fantastic! It suspends light weight items and gives a fantastic look to decorative accents.
Ingredients: De-Ionized Spring Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Acrylates Copolymer, Cocomidopropyl Betaine, Cocomide MEA, Triethanalomine, Propylene Glycol, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate.

Suspension Hand Soap
 Can be used to make shower gel, bubble bath, hand soap or body wash.
Ingredients: Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Acrylates Copolymer, Cocamide MEA, Triethanolamine, Propylene Glycol, Citric Acid, Sodium Chloride, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate.
 
Sal-Free^TM Melt and Pour bar soap bases

GOAT MILK Glycerin soap
Over 10% Goats Milk gives the soap an extra creamy lather.
Ingredients: Propylene Glycol, Sorbitol, Glycerin, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Stearate, Sodium Myristate, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Triethanolamine, Water, Goat Milk.

Melt & Pour Snow White Glycerin Soap Base
This is a very good quality of glycerin soap. It has tons of bubbles and "sweats" very little....this is something all crafters love!
Ingredients: Propylene Glycol, Water Sodium Stearate, Glycerin, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sorbitol, Sodium Myristate, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate,  Triethanolamine, Vitamin E No Artificial Preservatives also has titanium dioxide

Melt & Pour ULTRA Clear Glycerin Soap Base
Our Glycerin Melt & Pour Soap is considered the best on the market.
Ingredients: Propylene Glycol, Water,  Sodium Stearate,  Glycerin, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sorbitol, Sodium Myristate,  Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate,  Triethanolamine,  Vitamin E No Artificial Preservatives

Low-Sal^TM Melt and Pour bar soap bases

Melt & Pour SILK & SHEA Glycerin Soap Base
Shea butter makes this product low-sal.  Similar to coconut oil, it is fine since it is  washed off quickly.
Ingredients: Propylene Glycol, Sorbitol, Glycerin, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea butter), Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Stearate, Sodium Myristate, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Triethanolamine, Water, Silk Amino Acids.

A huge variety of wonderful synthetic fragrances.  Jody's Soap and Creations contacted the manufacturer of these fragrances twice and was assured that they are completely synthetic with no natural ingredients added!

Sal-Free^tm Additives

Citric Acid
Citric Acid combined with sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), citric acid is what puts the fizz in your bath bombs and fizzies. Can be used to balance the acidity in lotions. Used between .25 and 1%. Lotions that are too acidic may irritate the skin.

Germaben II
A Sal-Free^tm ingredient, it is effective against yeast and mold. Effective against gram-positive & negative bacteria. Broad spectrum antimicrobial

Great way to boost the lather in your liquid washes.
Ingredients: Glycol Distearate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamide MEA, Laureth-7, Water

Possible sources for Sal-Free^TM Lotion, shampoo and conditioner bases

Guai-Support homemade products page mentions a website that has sal-free^TM lotion, shampoo and conditioner bases. Unfortunately, the minimum you can buy for the lotion makes 2 1/2 gallons and that is if you buy it in a sample kit. It looks like you can buy hair conditioner in a 1 quart size and the shampoo can be purchased in 2 quart sample packs.  We have not checked their fragrances and colors so if you buy any of those items from them, please check them for salicylates before purchasing.

For a wider variety of bases you can search the internet for companies that sell bases and check the ingredients by asking the manufacturer for ingredients. If you search on your own, please keep in mind that many of the oils used in soaps and lotions are sal-full^tm.  Extra care should be taken in checking fragrances and colors.  Anything that mentions essential oils for fragrance will not be OK.  Fragrance oils are often OK but you will need to check to see if any additional ingredients are added.   One company adds almond oil to their fragrance oils so even though the fragrance itself is synthetic, the oils have added sal-full^tm ingredients. In some cases, a small amount of certain oils might be OK in soaps.   See the Guai-Support Sal-Full^TM and Sal-Free^TM lists for detailed information on ingredients.
