Chondroitin sulfate is a
natural substance found in the body and is an acidic mucopolysaccharides.
Mucopolysaccharides form thick gelatinous material that glues cells
together and lubricates joints. As one ages, the ability
to produce chondriotin sulfate has been shown to decline, making supplementation useful.
Chondroitin sulfate is the substance that gives cartilage its elasticity
and fluidity. It is best known as a remedy for osteoarthritis, a form of
arthritis defined as a chronic breakdown of cartilage in the
joints.
Protection and Support for Joints
Chondroitin sulfate is often combined with
glucosomine sulfate for osteoarthritis and joint pain. Chondroitin provides support and protection for joints by drawing moisture into
cartilage while glucosamine helps regenerate the cushioning components of
joints.
Long Lasting Pain Reduction in Osteoarthritis
In a study of 61 patients with osteoarthritis
of the hip, knee and/or finger joints, chondroitin was shown to reduce
pain. The decrease of pain was revealed to be statistically
significant. Serious side effects were not observed during the study.1
In a clinical study of 146
patients with knee osteoarthritis it was concluded that Chondroitin
Sulfate had a slow but gradually increasing benefit in reducing
pain. The pain reducing effect was shown to last for up to 3 months after
the end of treatment with Chondroitin Sulfate.2
Warnings:
