Pet Adoption Resources
How
could you? is a sad story, written from the
perspective of a family pet who is unnecessarily euthanized because her
family can no longer keep her.
It is understandable that circumstances change and for a variety of
reasons it is sometimes impossible to keep a pet, however there is no
reason for these pets to suffer or receive a death sentence. If you
have a pet that you can no longer keep, please plan ahead and take the
time to find a suitable home for them.
Dumping your pet out in the country
or on the streets to fend for themselves is cruel and inhumane. Domestic animals are not equipped to live as
wild animals and if abandoned in this way they will often die a slow,
painful death due to starvation, thirst or injury. Giving them up to a
shelter more often than not, ends in their death. Animal shelters
(unless they are specifically a no-kill shelter) simply don't have the resources to
keep pets for very long. If your animal is not adopted within a few
days, it will be killed. There are people who want your pet, it just
takes some time and planning to find them.
If you must relinquish your pet and you do not have the time to find an
appropriate home, please look for a "no-kill" shelter where they will keep
your pet until a suitable home can be found. Call your vet, the
local shelter and look on-line to find one. Call ahead because many
have waiting lists. Here are a few that we have been able to find.
No-Kill Animal
Shelters
Pet abandonment is epidemic. Please help stop this unnecessary
epidemic. Use our pet adoption resources below to find a suitable
home for your pet or if you are looking for a pet to take home, adopt one
that needs a home.
Consider donating your time or money to this worthy cause. If you
know of a good resource to add to this page,
let us know and we will gladly add them.
If you have a pet that you can no longer keep:
-
Ask family and friends if they
are interested in adopting or if they know of anyone who might be
interested
-
Place an ad in your local and regional newspapers
-
Check with your local veterinarians to see if they know
of anyone and ask if you can place an ad on their bulletin board
-
Look for rescue shelters in your area
-
Call your local animal shelter and ask for suggestions
-
Check out our on-line resources
Take the time to find a good
home for your pet. Ask for references because there are some scams
where people will take your pet and sell them to a local lab for
experimentation. It may take some time to find the right place but
it will be well worth it to know that your pet is in a good place and that
you have done the right thing by honoring your original commitment to
provide a good home to your pet.
